The BBC’s biggest supplier of specialist music content

Somethin’ Else is the biggest supplier of specialist music content to the BBC.

From legendary Radio 1 dance music show, The Essential Mix to 6 Music’s iconic Gilles Peterson Worldwide our work covers a wide spectrum of music genres that includes rock, jazz, soul, blues, house, drum’n’bass, hip-hop and much more (over 30 music shows a week across every BBC national music network).

Each week we work with artists and broadcasting talent to produce audio, video and social media content for formats that include The Rock Show, David Rodigan, DJ Semtex’s Hip-Hop show, Trevor Nelson’s Soul Show, The Freakzone and many more.

Our involvement across different musical genres means that we also produce and manage social media for BBC Music.

In addition to these ongoing formats, Somethin’ Else also produces documentaries that explore musical passions in more depth. Recent examples include an hour-long documentary for BBC4 on Northern Soul, “Living for The Weekend” and the BBC’s first ever audio and video dual commission – Macklemore and Lewis: Seattle State of Mind.

Our current music BBC format, Extreme Festivals, hosted by Chris Stark is now airing on BBC iPlayer and is one of Radio 1’s most downloaded video shows.
