Jazz 625 Live : For One Night Only

We brought back an iconic 1960s Jazz TV show with the first live black and white BBC broadcast since 1974!

Broadcast live from the Cheltenham Jazz Festival, this 90 minute special was the first edition of Jazz 625 for more than 50 years. Hosted by Andi Oliver with a house band led by pianist Robert Mitchell the programme featured live performances from singer Gregory Porter, US saxophone star Joshua Redman and Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts digging into his jazz roots.

The show celebrated the jazz legends who appeared on the original show with features and archive packages including Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Ronnie Scott and more. We also secured exclusive new interviews with Courtney Pine and Dame Cleo Laine.

DJ Gilles Peterson and food critic and jazz lover Jay Rayner appeared live in the studio.

The production was the brainchild of BBC executive Adam Barker and our CEO Jez Nelson who was the Executive Producer on the show.
