Sonia Deol is one of the rising stars within the BBC, and after the success of the ‘Sonia Deol Show’ being BBC Asian Network’s flagship programme since it’s nationwide DAB launch in 2002, Sonia now presents the Breakfast Show on the station.

Most recently, Sonia became Nicky Campbell’s co-presenter on BBC1’s new Sunday morning debate show ‘The Big Question’. Sonia and Nicky travel across the country to present live discussions on the moral and faith issues behind the news headlines. There’s no doubt that Sonia was an obvious choice next to Campbell after posing serious and never asked questions as a roving reporter for the Heaven and Earth Show (BBC1) to interviewees including former Labour MP Clare Short and Olivia Newton John.

Sonia’s first job was at Sunrise Radio in 1994. From there she joined RADIO XL to present the Mid Morning show. This show was the first daily phone-in show dedicated to Asians living in the Midlands.

In 1996 she was poached by the BBC Asian Network to present their ‘Mid Morning Show’ and launched its new 24-hour service. During this time Sonia won two awards: The ‘Best Female Presenter in the UK’ by Asian Pop Awards and the ‘Best Presenter in the UK’ by Movie Music and Media Awards. Sonia stayed there for four years until being approached by BBC London to present their drive-time show.

Not just content with radio, Sonia has considerable experience in television. On BBC 2’s Network East she progressed from being a reporter to co-presenting the show between 1997-2000. At Channel East she was the presenter of a magazine style show called ‘Everywoman’, a programme centered around the more serious topical issues affecting British Asian women. Sonia has also been a regular contributor to 'East Midlands Today', reporting on stories for their main news programme, including covering BBC’s ‘MEGA MELA’, from the NEC and presented BBC London News (BBC1).

Sonia has hosted many fashion shows, concerts, charity events, and corporate events with one of her recent highlights hosting the ‘Asian Women Of Achievement Awards’.

Sonia is a gifted presenter with a vast amount of experience both in television and radio and according to her she has “only just begun!” ”
