Liz Barker’s story is one of hard work fuelled by natural talent. After graduating with a degree in Philosophy, she started as a runner for Lion TV before progressing to researcher.
Leaving CBBC’s flagship show Blue Peter was certainly a daunting prospect, but it was certainly not the end of the world for Liz. In fact, she got stuck into another CBBC project that started the same week she left Blue Peter! 'Totally Dr Who', was a magazine style 13 part series for Dr Who buffs that celebrated all things Dr Who - featuring interviews with cast members, debates with celebrity guests, quizzes and role plays.
Liz’s accolade as the first ever working mum in Blue Peter history only made her more determined to juggle motherhood and her career. During her six years as one of the main presenters, Liz travelled to Spain, Vietnam (where she lived in a remote village), Morocco, Brazil, Bavaria, Belize, Austria, America and Ghana. She relished the active pursuits the show threw at her - despite her fear of heights one of Liz's first assignments was cleaning windows of Canary Wharf in London and has since learnt to tightrope walk.
Liz’s first taste of presenting was on Backstage (BBC Choice) where she was able to talk about her first love - SPORT!! Liz is an avid football fan and was the sports reporter for the show including compiling, filming and editing shorts.
Liz is also a keen amateur actor and has tried her hand at acting with a small role in Carrie’s War (BBC).
