Helen Mayhew is one of the UK’s best- known jazz broadcasters with a radio career spanning more than 20 years.

Helen began in BBC local radio in Devon and Kent before spending 14 years as a presenter for Jazz FM. Her evening programme was the station’s most listened-to show, and she attracted a reputation for a music selection that appealed not only to the jazz aficionados but also to the ears of the casual listener. She went on to host her own shows on BBC Radios 2 and 3, and her radio work has landed her nominations for the MOBO Awards and Sony Radio Academy Awards and has won the Best Presenter Award at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards.

Helen is well-known in the jazz community for her interviewing abilities, and she has encountered some of the world’s top players including McCoy Tyner, Branford and Wynton Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard, Tony Bennett, Louie Belson and the late great Ray Charles. As a club DJ, her gigs have included appearances at Ronnie Scott’s jazz club in London and the Jazz FM Weekender in Birmingham, as well as cool hangouts such as London’s Cargo and The Market Bar.

Helen also brings Jazz music to in-flight radio presenting shows for EVA, Kuwait and Singapore Airlines as well as ‘Jazz Connections’ on Virgin trains. .
