Born in Birmingham before spending her childhood in South London and her teenage years in Horsham, West Sussex, Gemma Cairney is the young, tenacious and downright loud mouth new voice for Big Brother’s Big Ears.
A Brit School graduate alongside the likes of Amy Winehouse, Kate Nash amnd our very own MTV face Rickie Haywood- Williams, Gemma later moved to Brick Lane where she discovered fast paced fashion world. Working for a couple of years as a stylist in her own right (Mystery Jets, Pigeon Detectives) and as an assistant stylist to some of the biggest acts in the country like The Sugababes, Gemma eventually decided she wanted to put that big mouth to more use than just demolishing post-shoot cocktails and did a free course in radio in Hoxton.
Straight out of that she cut her teeth doing a show for Channel 4 Radio called Festival Fever, sleeping under canvas every weekend last summer. Running around shoving a microphone in front of everyone from Late of the Pier to Akon at the best festivals the summer had to offer, Gemma was living the dream.
Gemma is also a new addition to the Bite team on Channel 4.com alongside one of our other presenters, Zena. In a way that only Gemma can, she investigates Britains freshest trends including a imagining life full of bling at a London jewelry fare, becoming a spoken word artist at a book launch and talks hair at the L’Oreal Colour Awards.
Sweet as chocolate, interested in people and general mischief, this summer Gemma will swap the nations festival fields for the festive atmosphere outside BB9, fearlessly getting in amongst the banner-waving obsessive to report to you the news and views from the BB frontline while you recline and enjoy the madness from the peace of your front room.
