The 6 Mix came live from the Big Chill Festival in Herefordshire this weekend, featuring storming live DJ sets from Mr Scruff, Jamie xx and Norman Jay MBE (pictured on the decks below) in a packed tent on site.

Dave Pearce meets Boy George for BBC 6 Music

On this week’s 6 Mix on BBC 6 Music, Dave Pearce is joined by cultural icon Boy George to talk about his life in dance music and clubbing.

From his days as a cloakroom attendant at the infamous Blitz Club, dance music has always played a pivotal role in George’s life. In this show he shares the soundtrack to his clubbing life with Dave, from Bowie to Telex, Sylvester to Strafe via the E Zee Possee and More Protein Records up to Felix and Duke from his days as a resident at Progress and Miss Moneypennys. There’s also a premiere of a new dance track he’s made featuring George Michael.

You can catch the show on BBC 6 Music on Sunday July 17th at 8pm and repeated on Saturday July 24th at 10pm. You can also listen again via the BBC iPlayer.

On this week’s 6 Mix we were lucky enough to be joined by a genuine legend of dance music, “the Godfather of House”, Frankie Knuckles.

In this two hour special for BBC 6 Music, Frankie hooked up with long time DJ buddy Dave Pearce to talk about the origins of house music, the clubbing scene in the New York and Chicago during the late 1980s/early 90s and his remarkable career as a producer and DJ. We also found time to play some of Frankie’s favourite dance tunes, including tracks from Robert Owens, Derrick May, and Alison Limerick.

Judge Jules on BBC Radio 1

The legend that is Judge Jules needs no introduction. He’s a judge because his law studies helped the early rave scene swerve legal threats, and he’s a Jules because his mum liked the name.

He has been broadcasting on BBC Radio 1 for over 10 years and each week he welcomes you into the “Big Room”, playing only big room anthems … everything from house to trance. When you listen to the show you’re in the main room of the biggest club in the world every Friday night — that’s the mission.

During the show Jules gets some of his the dance world’s hottest talent (including the likes of Tiesto, Ferry Corste, Axwell & Deadmau5) to check in, pick their favourite tracks of the moment and get into the mix.

The show is more banging than a world heavyweight boxing championship, as Jules would probably (not) say.

The 6 Mix is BBC 6 Music’s electronic and experimental programming strand, celebrating all things which go ‘beep,’ and giving you a chance to hear musicians and DJs talking about the tunes which make them do what they do.

A killer line-up includes Andrew Weatherall, Derrick May, Erol Alkan and Orbital, who play the music they love on rotation throughout the year, interspersed with special programmes celebrating music from all different styles.
