Celebrate Sport is an action packed two weeks of shows, events and interactive sessions from Thursday 8 until Thursday 22 December, which will give thousands of adults and children the chance to immerse themselves in the world of sport. Some of the BBC’s biggest sport brands, including 606, are inviting in live studio audiences and recording special shows for broadcast.

Last night we took home an amazing three Sony Radio Academy Awards — the Oscars of the radio world. We’ll be coming back to earth sometime in July,  but in the meantime Team SE team says “We are not worthy!” to our winners:

• Rising Star Award: Robbie Savage

We salute Robbie’s 606 producer Jo Tongue and all the 606 team who have worked so closely with Robbie all season.

• Best Specialist Music ShowJazz on 3

Nominated twice before this means a lot to us, especially as the presenter of the show is our very own founder Jez Nelson. Congrats to the whole team of Robert Abel, Joby Waldman, Peggy Sutton, Russell Finch, Paul Ruston and Becca Aitchison.

• Music Personality Ronnie Wood

Ronnie and his producer Claire have created an incredible show — truly innovative in its texture and format. Team Somethin’ Else send massive congratulations to Claire Neal, Rob Poland, Sam Cocker and Ed de Lacy.

Robbie Savage bids farewell

Those of us who work on the UK’s biggest football phone in eat, sleep and breath the beautiful game, so it was no surprise that last Saturday’s 606 was an emotional one. Robbie Savage / Roberto Savagio / Sav  played his last ever professional game of football for Derby County before co-presenting the show with Mark Chapman on BBC 5 Live and as a consequence, there was a montage and, inevitably, tears.

Robbie debates the merits of the SPL with a caller

As the new Premier League season kicked off 606 presenters Robbie Savage, Dion Dublin, Mark Chapman and Darren Fletcher were besieged with callers wanting to discuss Martin O’Neill’s resignation, Blackpool’s dream start and the ever continuing Fabio Capello England debate.
