The Surgery

The first place to go for teenagers with problems

BBC Radio 1’s young audience often has questions that they’re too afraid to ask the doctor or their mums. The Surgery is there for them – to help them through life with answers to problems and to listen to relationship issues.

The Surgery is more than a radio show, working across platforms, including online clips, iPlayer and online games, to provide advice, mixed with entertainment, that speaks to the audience on their own level.

It’s an interactive format that allows teenagers to talk about themselves, their bodies and their relationships. Helping them to shoot down the myths around these subjects that they’d get from their mates or from Reddit.

We’ve built loyalty with special shows themed around issues such as dating and coming out, helping Radio 1 to grow its connections with young people while addressing teenage concerns.
