Somethin’ Else is the biggest supplier of specialist music content to the BBC.
From legendary dance music show on Radio 1 – The Essential Mix to Radio 3’s Essential Classics our work covers a wide spectrum of music genres that includes rock, jazz, soul, house, drum’n’bass, hip-hop and much more (over 30 music shows a week).
Each week we work with artists and broadcasting talent to produce audio, video and social media content for formats that include The Rock Show, Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide, David Rodigan, DJ Semtex’s Hip-Hop show, Trevor Nelson’s Soul Show, The Freakzone and many more.
Our involvement across different musical genres means that we also produce and manage social media for BBC Music.
In addition to these ongoing formats, Somethin’ Else also produces documentaries that explore musical passions in more depth. Recent examples include an hour-long documentary for BBC4 on Northern Soul, “Living for The Weekend” and the BBC’s first ever audio and video dual commission – Macklemore and Lewis: Seattle State of Mind.
Our newest music BBC format, Training Tunes, hosted by Trevor Nelson is now airing on BBC iPlayer.
