
William Burroughs: Nothing Is True, Everything Is Permitted is a soundscape-style documentary exploring the spoken word work of William Burroughs, presented by Laurie Anderson.
The programme features recordings of William Burroughs reading extracts from his books as well as his spoken word pieces. The recordings are woven in to a backdrop of surreal sounds and the music of those who were inspired by his writing.
The presenter, Laurie Anderson guides the listener through the programme, which focuses in particular on Burroughs’ thoughts on control, language and existence. She offers her interpretation of his writing as well as personal insights based on her friendship and work with Burroughs.
Laurie Anderson is a spoken word and electronica artist, most famous for her ‘O Superman’ release. She worked with Burroughs in a number of mediums, including in music, poetry tours and film. She was also one of the only women allowed in to his close personal circle of friends.
The programme goes out on Radio 4 on 4th March at 11pm
