Nescafe Coffee Break

Nescafe Coffee Break, commercial radio

Somethin’ Else has been commissioned by marketing agency Freud Communications to produce a radio drama for Nescafe Original to run across commercial radio networks for 13 weeks.

Coffee Break is a daily soap opera aired on major UK radio stations, including the Capital Gold Network, Classic Gold Network and Magic FM.

The series - think a modern day Gold Blend story told in the form of two-minute adverts - is the kind of entertaining, branded content that Somethin' Else are passionate about making. With Coffee Break we have fused our tested skills in creative radio production with great writing from Billy Byrd, a veteran writer on the BBC's EastEnders and Holby City.

More than just an advert, the series' focus is on original, engaging drama and is driven by the ethos underpinning every soap - the tale of ordinary people living recognisable lives. Each episode is another glimpse into the everyday trials and tribulations of a small community in the north of England, with Gill and Don, along with their family, friends and neighbours, at the heart of the story.

The characters have been brought to life by actors with a fine pedigree in drama - on the radio and beyond. Paul Copley, who plays Don, has had a prolific career with roles in series such as Clocking Off, Life on Mars and Cracker, and countless radio plays. Meanwhile, Natasha Pyne, a.k.a Gill, has worked in film alongside Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor and Peter Cushing, and has appeared in over two hundred radio plays.

With such an exciting pool of talent and innovative format it's no wonder Coffee Break has been such a hit with all involved - from cast, crew and client to the audience.

Coffee Break is on air from 12th March – 8th June 2007.
