Island Rock

Island Rock, BBC Radio 2

Forty years of Jamaican Musical Independence - an eight part landmark series marking the history of Jamaican Music. A co-production between Nicky Birch and Alex Feldman, this project was a dream to work on.

Nicky hung out in Jamaica with our presenter, Brinsley Forde (of Aswad fame) and Alex went out to New York to meet the man that founded Island Records, Chris Blackwell.

There were interviews with just about every major Jamaican music star ever, from Mento through to Bashment; amazing voices, amazing stories and, above all, amazing music - Politics, Producers, Riddims, Rastafari, Gunshots, Gal Dem, Slackness, Rocksteady, Roots, Tosh, Marley, Bunny and so much more - Big UP!

The show ran during June and July, 2002
