On June 11th Paul Bennun will exit real life and log on to a selection of internet based communities and applications - from where he'll conduct all his business meetings and social gatherings.
In the name of a Radio 3 documentary Paul is going into cut himself off from the world - his whole life will be negotiated from the very top of a tower block off Hackney Road, London, where he'll not be allowed to receive visitors or communicate beyond the confines of his computer. He'll be available to talk to anyone from his cabin in Second Life and via AIM, iChat and Skype. Also, a live video feed from his desk will be available at all times.
He will attempt to lead a 'normal life' so tasks he'll have to negotiate so far include interviews, all his meetings, two conferences, company presentations and social interactions.
The documentary Liquid Living is being made by our Sound department, and explores virtual communities - specifically how relationships therein differ from physical ones. The program will feature the findings of Paul's experiment, as well as interviews with key players and theorists in the field.
