23/04/07 - Somethin' Else scoop two big pitch wins

On Thursday April 19 two teams from Somethin' Else racked up some exciting pitch successes - securing a £10,000 development fund from the BBC at the MIPTV festival in Cannes and a commission from Channel 4 Radio.

In Cannes, Paul Bennun and Sophie Hammer pitched "Our Life" to the BBC in the Teenage Drama and Entertainment category of the Content 360 pitching competition. They delivered a private 30-minute presentation to the BBC and fought off three other teams to emerge victorious at a live awards show later in the week. Somethin' Else will now receive £10,000 to develop the idea, the first 360-degree ‘social opera where drama evolves through embracing the participation of its audience / community.

Meanwhile, at the Radio Academy's Production 07 event, Roman Tagoe and Tom Young pitched to victory in the "Dealing with the Dragons, Surviving in the Den" competition. They presented a 3-minute proposal for a documentary entitled "Gangster's Paradise" in a bid to win over one of the two "dragons" from Radio 1 and Channel 4 Radio. Andrew Phillips from Channel 4 Radio declared himself "in" on the deal and commissioned the 30-minute programme, which gets behind the headlines and explores what it's like to be part of a gang in the UK.
