"The Clones of Dr Funkenstein - The Story of George Clinton" has just been commissioned for BBC2 and BBC4. The one off documentary follows the life and work of one of the most influential characters in modern music. This special music profile is set to mark The Godfather of P-Funk’s 50th year in the business.
Known as The Great Chameleon of R&B, the documentary will tell what is one of the most remarkable stories in music. The programme will feature interviews about their hero with Andre 3000 from ‘Outkast’, Macy Gray, Bobby Gillespie and ‘The Red Hot Chilli Peppers’. There will also be rare archive material featured from George Clinton himself.
Clinton continues to fascinate through his exceptional creativity, imagination and talent, in addition to his pioneering and influential approach to politics. Following Somethin’ Else’s previous documentaries on Gil Scott-Heron and Sun Ra for the BBC, George Clinton is naturally the next subject to recognise and appreciate.
The series is due to be broadcast in August 2006.
Commissioned by Mark Cooper for BBC2 and BBC4. Directed by Don Letts and executive produced by Jez Nelson.
