Ronnie Does It Again

The Ronnie Wood Show has continued to scoop awards by winning at the Arqivas – the commercial radio awards. Ronnie won Best Specialist Show and Best Newcomer at this year’s event for his show on Absolute Radio. It’s the first time we’ve won Arqiva Awards, and this adds to the Sony Golds we won earlier in the year (one of which was for Ronnie). Ronnie was on hand to pick up the awards – we reckon he was pretty chuffed! Congrats to all the team – there’s more about the night here with a full list of winners here. Mary Wilson on The Ronnie Wood show

It was a ‘Supreme’ honor to have Mary Wilson on The Ronnie Wood Show recently.

Mary was a founding member of the premier Motown act The Supremes. Despite Ronnie and Mary each having spent fifty years in the music business their paths, until now, had never crossed but you’d have thought they’d known each other all their lives as they laughed and joked during the recording session getting on like a house on fire.

Glen Matlock on The Ronnie Wood Show

What do you get if you put a Rolling Stone and a Sex Pistol in the same room? An eclectic and interesting mix of music! So that’s exactly what happened when Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock joined Ronnie Wood on his radio show.

Glen recently joined Ronnie’s reformed Faces band playing a handful of live gigs with him over the summer. Check out this video we shot of the pair in the studio talking about thier love of the Faces, and tune in this Friday on Absolute Classic Rock to hear the full show.

Sly & the Family Stone drummer Andy Newmark stops by The Ronnie Wood Show

Although best known as the drummer in Sly & the Family Stone, Andy Newmark has been a session drummer for just about everyone who is anyone including John Lennon, BB King and Eric Clapton. He played on Ronnie’s first solo album “I’ve Got My Own Album To Do’ and the pair have been friends ever since.

On Ronnie’s show this week, Andy pops in for a trip down memory lane, as he fondly recalls that time, and the fun they had together!

The Ronnie Wood Show – ‘I Feel Like Playing’ Album Special

When Ronnie suggested we do a show focusing on his new album, I said “Great! but what can we do to make it reeeeeally special?” Ronnie being Ronnie said “How about we call some of the people that I worked with on the album?” and went on to list an armful of A-List contributors, and handed me the personal numbers of the likes of Bobby Womack, Eddie Veder, Kris Kristofferson and Bernard Fowler. It seems everybody loves Ronnie and will do anything for him, even if it means getting out of bed at 6am to answer his call!

Ronnie’s album ‘I Feel Like Playing’ is out on Monday but you can get a preview, and hear from his pals who helped him put it together tonight from 6pm on Absolute Classic Rock.

Jesse Wood on The Ronnie Wood Show

This week Ronnie invited his son Jesse onto his show, father and son playing some of their favourite songs both comtemporay and old school. With Ronnie on lead guitar and Jesse on bass this was a one-off not to be missed.
