606 pays tribute to Gary Speed

Sunday 27th November 2011 will forever be remembered as one of the most emotional days in the 606 office.

The passing of Wales manager, Gary Speed, came as blow to everyone involved in the show. Just two weeks earlier, Gary was a visitor to Television Centre as he watched 606 presenter Robbie Savage perform on Strictly Come Dancing and, as a result, the former Leeds United, Newcastle United, Sheffield United, Everton and Bolton Wanderers midfielder, along with his wife Louise, took the time to talk to each and everyone of us.

Fast forward a week later, and the Welshman took time out from relaxing in his local pub to come on-air and take questions from callers following Wales’ 4-1 home win against a strong Norway side.

That’s the kind of guy he was. Gary Speed was a legend both on, and off, the pitch.
