Job opportunity

We’re looking for a Broadcast Assistant to work in the Jazz Department at Somethin’ Else – a cross-platform production company and the largest independent radio producer in the UK. We’ve been making BBC Radio 3′s weekly contemporary jazz show Jazz On 3 for the past twelve years, as well as documentaries and series about jazz for BBC Radio 1Xtra, 2, 3 and 4.

About you:
The successful applicant will have a passion for radio, a demonstrable love and knowledge of jazz and the ability to write quickly, accurately, and creatively. We’re looking for someone who can prove they are highly organized, with an eye for detail and a pro-active and flexible approach to work.

Desirable, but not essential, is experience of working in radio, including digital editing skills and the ability to use portable recording equipment.

About the job:
The successful applicant will support the producers and ensure that our radio programmes are delivered safely and accurately to the BBC. The job involves work in three broad areas:

Research: Gathering info about CD releases, gigs & tours, preparing script information, researching interviews and sourcing music.

Admin: Ensuring programmes are delivered safely to the BBC and completing all paperwork, maintaining databases, playlists and information for the Jazz on 3 website and other social media sites and filing.

Creativity: Writing copy for publicity material and Radio Times billings and the weekly email newsletter. The BA will also be expected to contribute ideas to the programme, including developing complex features.

We’re looking for someone ambitious, who will make the most of many opportunities to learn editing, programme making & filming skills. The job is based at the Somethin’ Else offices near Old Street, London.
