This week, Natural Born Caretakers, Somethin’ Else’s latest radio drama, was broadcast on BBC Radio 3. Written by acclaimed playwright Sarah Daniels, it’s a view from the front line of 21st Century Social Work inspired by – or as a response to – recent news stories surrounding the profession.
Key to the project was the time that Sarah spent embedded in social work teams observing how they work in order to achieve an authentic representation of life as a social worker, in contrast to the figure often portrayed in the press. The result is a gripping and darkly humorous day-in-the-life of David Ashton (played by Michael Garner) as a crisis unfolds in his unit.
The drama was Directed and Produced by Polly Thomas, while Eloise Whitmore provided the Sound Design.
You can listen to it here on the BBC iPlayer.
