With AAA pass in hand, Somethin’ Else has been commissioned to act as the social media arm of BBC Radio 3 for their excellent summer of live events. The station has some of the biggest and best live events in the UK under its watch, including last weekend’s WOMAD, The London Jazz Festival, Free Thinking and, of course, The BBC Proms.
The project started two months ago with some audience work and brainstorming, coming up with an idea for a service that chimed with potential Radio 3 listeners. Our job was to find a younger, arts-curious crowd that aren’t already listening to the station and would love the network if only they realised what Radio 3 did.
This summer we will be picking two advocates per week – people that you wouldn’t normally associate with the station – to give their recommendations for Radio 3 content. Facebook and Twitter users will be kept up-to-date with these regular mini-guides and with other related BBC and non-BBC content to help them make some sense of the enormous amount of material on the dial.
Week one was last week and went in a flash, with Rob Da Bank’s Proms and Gilles Peterson’s WOMAD. Go to the Radio 3 Facebook page – we will be posting through to November with links to Listen Again and to other concerts just around the corner. Follow us on Twitter… props to the excellent @trixie and @katybeale who make up the team.
