Jazz on 3 this week…

On Monday 26 July we’re live from the 15th annual Manchester Jazz Festival. Jez and the team will be at the city’s Band on the Wall venue for an evening of fantastic live acts with plenty of festival atmosphere. We’ve three performances from musicians with a local Lancastrian connection:

- Conceived in Calcutta, bred in Bolton, matured in Manchester, clarinetist Arun Ghosh performs music that puts a contemporary jazz twist on the music of South Asia. The band features Corey Mwamba on vibes, Idris Rahman on reeds, Myke Wilson on drums and bassist Sylvan Richardson.

- Guitarist Stuart McCallum, best known for his work with the Cinematic Orchestra, brings his laptop along for a solo set of free flowing ambient atmospheres with an individual approach to melody and form.

- Closing the show a new trans-Atlantic quartet featuring compositions by pianist Gwilym Simcock and Manchester guitarist Mike Walker alongside the repertoire of American heavyweights Steve Swallow on bass and drummer Adam Nussbaum. A meeting of intelligent minds and virtuosic players it promises to be an electrifying end to the evening.

Plus Jez will be talking to musicians and playing tracks from artists at the festival, which is at venues across Manchester until 31 July: http://www.manchesterjazz.com/

Join the party, on air Monday 26 July at 11.15pm on BBC Radio 3
