IT Manager- Job Description
The Somethin’ Else IT department supports one of the UK’s largest cross-platform production companies.
The role of IT Manager includes provision of desktop support (mainly Macs but some PCs too) during office hours; administration of all IT operations; supervision of technical aspects of the production and delivery of audio, video, and digital content both in general, and for specific projects; planning and delivering company-wide IT strategy.
Reporting to the FD specific responsibilities include:
Support and Day to day issues
- Maintenance and allocation of all IT infrastructure, including servers, desktops, laptops and printers
- Variety of OS server support, including Windows and Linux
- Supporting our mail services
- Administration of our firewall and spamwall
- Managing data backup and tape libraries
- Maintaining and testing Standard Desktop/Laptop Builds and rolling out new software and updates on all supported platforms
- Monitor and maintenance of co-locate facility and related hardware and hosted services
- Supporting suite of Final Cut Server 6 edit stations and associated hardware and software
- Support radio producers and other engineers using Cubase, SADIE and ProTools and associated hardware
General
- Monitoring and managing relationships with external suppliers
- Maintaining support contracts for hardware and software licensing
- Asset record keeping and user administration and account management
Project management
- Setting up streaming infrastructure for internet radio shows
- Set up of online live video stream
- Advising on kit/resources required for projects
- Source, purchase, install, test and document and hardware/software purchased
High level planning for budgets, platforms and policies
- Producing the annual IT Budget and controlling spending for the department
- Formulate and apply appropriate IT policies across the business
Strategy – future planning for the needs of the company
