Jazz on 3 this week…

Tune in tonight to hear a gig from British pianist Tom Cawley and his trio Curios plus an interview with veteran promoter George Wein, the master of making money out of jazz who explains why he backs the underground scene as the future of the business.

Curios are a band that receives more impressive one-line press quotes than any other I know. Having recently released a new album a whole new set of complimentary statements have been issued out to them including:

“Brims with confidence, accomplishment and no little flair” Jazzwise
“A piano trio jazz of the highest order” The Jazz Man
“A formidable unit… The tunes remain their own, neatly skirting the tried and tired” The Times

‘The Other Place’ Curios’ third album captures the melodic genius of Brad Mehldau and rhythmic rubato of Bill Evans together with an atmospheric dabble in electronics. Before the gig Guardian critic John Fordham is at Tom’s house to find out how he approaches writing the music for Curios and why Gabriela Sabatini is in the closet!
