Tonight’s show is given over to one of England’s greatest jazz exports, pianist Django Bates. Performing the music of bebop’s iconic master Charlie Parker, re-arranged and re-constructed for acoustic piano trio, Django successfully stamps his own sound on the memorable tunes and throws in a few original compositions for good measure too.

Before the concert and continuing during the interval, pianist and regular Jazz on 3 contributor Ethan Iverson interviews Django about his life in music; from his seminal years in Beckenham, South London, via Loose Tubes and his core quartet Human Chain, to successfully tackling one of the greatest jazz icons with awareness and free spirit.
