The wonderful Aldeburgh Music have commissioned Somethin’ Else to make a series of films for their website in and around their home of Snape Maltings this year.
We will be lucky enough to join them six times this year for what looks like one of the most ambitious and interesting musical programmes anywhere in the UK. We’ll be matching the ambition of the Aldeburgh programme with our visual treatments of the events. This isn’t TV (but watch for a big TV announcement from VoSE soon!).
The first set of films are in the edit right now and look great: beautiful pictures and a fascinating subject. Directed by Paul Bernays (who also directed Somethin’ Else’s acclaimed ‘1959 – the Year That Changed Jazz’ for BBC 4) , they look at Faster Than Sound‘s event from January, ‘An English Journey Re-Imagined‘.
The event follows authors and psycho-geographers Iain Sinclair and Alan Moore, song collector Shirley Collins, composer/musician Susan Stenger, F. M. Einheit and visual artist Graham Dolphin, to communicate a special journey through the Suffolk countryside. Other films include mini-documentaries, teaching sessions and performances from this summer’s festival.
As soon as this film is live we will post so that you can have a look.
